Non-Cuban citizens can be represented in court only by »internationally approved« lawyers. There are a few lawyers and institutions that facilitate such service.

Persons who are arrested and imprisoned in a Cuban prison will need a public defender. It is recommended to engage the services of a lawyer with an international permit. Lawyers in Cuba are allowed to appear before all kinds of courts and all instances. The only limitation in the scope of action is imposed on notaries and judicial authorities.
Costs: fees for lawyers in Cuba
Fees for lawyers in Cuba are to be paid in CUC (convertible Pesos), which is the »tourist currency«. Without being able to give any sort of warranty, we advise that costs can reach up to 150 CUC per hour. Additionally, attorney offices often require payment in advance.
