Sun, beaches, sea - Varadero
Varadero is the best-known bathing site in Cuba, definitely one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Situated at about 2 hours’ drive away from Havana, it is an approximately 18 km long peninsula, about 500 meters far from the mainland, a stripe stretching out into the sea towards north-east. It has 20 kilometers of white sandy beaches, where those who like to lie in the sun or swim in the sea can have their fair share of fun. All kinds of water sports are available here.
On the mainland, or the root of the Varadero peninsula, there is an airport, opened in 1989, called "Juan Gualberto Gómez", where various European and North American airlines also operate flights. Tourists often simply call it “Varadero airport”.
Tourism, golf clubs, and nightlife in Cuba
Varadero is definitely one of the most tourist-friendly sites in Cuba since it offers something for each taste and preference. Nightlife is also a big attraction here. Since Varadero is mostly focused on European and Canadian all-inclusive tourists, the place can often become really crowded. This is why we recommend that you plan your accommodation ahead of time, whether in a private home or in one of the numerous international all-inclusive hotels.
